WESTEC staff furious about SSNIT non-payment and foul conditions of service

WESTECWorkers of WESTEC security company in the Northern region have threatened to lay down their tools from 1st July due to poor conditions of service.

They are unhappy with issues regarding their salaries, SSNIT contributions and other matters.

Leader of the group; Larry Peter tells rawgist.com “the company is treating us like slaves. More than six years now there has been no increment of salary. They promised an increment in January 2016 but that is yet to be seen”.

He also revealed that for his entire working life at WESTEC as well as that of others, the company has never paid any SSNIT contribution for “not only me but most of us”. “We do not have a future, we may go on pension with empty hands. Nothing has been done though we have written to the authorities”, he said and added that they have worked for over six years without leave. “We need to go on leave to be with our families but we lack such freedom.

“We are saying if they do not increase our salaries to 600 Ghana cedis and pay our SSNIT, we will go on strike from 1st July”.

The Northern regional manager of WESTEC; Ibrahim Sumaila explained to rawgist.com that, ” we are trying our best to resolve the situation” and promised to get in touch with the company’s Head Office on the way forward.
