fulaniOutgoing Ashanti regional minister; Hon. Peter Anarfi Mensah says the issue of Fulani herdsmen in parts of the Ashanti region is not being left to fester.

The Minister who spoke to Kumasi based Hello FM on his way to Agogo stated that the situation is being assessed in every possible light and action will soon be taken to solve the problem.

He also explains that one of the short term efforts are towards putting up early warning signs to help prevent future recurrences of the situation.

The issue is not left to fester. we are going to assess the situation together with the IGP and fix it.

Hon. Peter Anarfi Mensah was on his way to Agogo and its surrounding communities where fulani nomads have over sometime caused security problems. He was travelling together with the Inspector General of Police, the Chief of Defence Staff, National Security Coordinator and the Chief of Army Staff.

Residents of such communities are at their wits end and say they can no longer tolerate the nomads. They say the nomads allow their cattle to graze on their farm produce and men who stand up to them are murdered or severely wounded while women are raped on their farms.

The mood in Agogo area is a mixture of extreme sadness and anger with some declaring their readiness to face-off with the headsmen and forcibly evict them from the land. Some suspect the situation has been left unattended to by the authorities because some of them may be involved with the headsmen in various ways.

Others are also concerned that some of the herdsmen have lived there for so long, married and have families there; a situation that for some makes the matter more complicated.
