Police arrest disabled and accomplice for robbery

The Manhyia Divisional Police Command headed by C/supt. Kwaku Buah, last week arrested two suspected armed robbers namely, Akwasi Francis aged 22 years and Robert Antwi (alias Azonto) a 23 year-old physically challenged person who attempted to rob a taxi driver of his Toyota Taxi cab bearing the registration number BA 2910-14.

DCOP Ken Yeboah, Ashanti regional Police Commander explained to the media that the two suspects Akwasi Francis and Robert Antwi hired the services of the taxi driver from labour roundabout towards Afful Nkwanta. On the reaching the children’s park, suspect Akwasi Francis who was then seated at the front passenger’s seat pulled out a locally manufactured pistol, while Robert Antwi then sitting at the back passenger seat also pulled out a knife and ordered the driver to get down from the car.

This incident, he explained occurred around 2am.

He said the driver resisted and held the pistol pointed at him by suspect Akwasi Francis. During the scuffle, suspect Robert Antwi who was then holding the knife stabbed the driver several times in the head, neck, forehead and his back in order to subdue him.

He disclosed that, luck however eluded the two suspects, when some bystanders saw them in the car struggling with the taxi driver and went to his aid, and they were immediately apprehended and handed over to the Manhyia Divisional Police Command, where they have since been in custody assisting Police with investigations.

He revealed that, the taxi driver is receiving treatment at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and technology hospital.
