The attention of the Organized Youth of Ashanti (OYA) has been drawn to publications on various news portals and radio stations with headlines “If we build Roads with Gold, Ashanti won’t Appreciates” a quote attributed to President Mahama.

OYA wishes to state that President John Mahama never said what he is quoted to have said anywhere during his visit or address to his party members during his 3days Working Visit to Ashanti Region.

Again it is sad to note that some radio stations have doctored the original audio of His Excellency the President and are playing it with a motive of whipping up public displeasure against the President – this is very unfortunate!.

For the avoidance of doubt, we present to you a transcript of the relevant portions of the original audio.

“… the Akans have a saying that, no matter how well the chicken dances, it will never please the hawk. No matter how well the chicken dances, it will never please the hawk.

Therefore, we need not be discouraged by that. Because for some people, even if we cover all the ground with gold, here in Kumasi, they will not appreciate it.

The promises we made that Ghanaians stood behind us, all have been documented, we know all the promises, we are fulfilling all. By 2016, we will count them one after the other. When we finish counting, we will ask Ghanaians if we have left some out. They will say no, we have done all. 2016, the elections, we will win again…”

We also attach the original audio for your listening.

Thank you.

Brogya Genfi
