NDC can go for Paul Afoko-NPP Organizer

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been asked to adopt the suspended party Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Paul Afoko and utilize him to its advantage.

The Wassa Amenfi West Consttituency Organiser of the NPP, Hon. John Osway tells this reporter in a radio interview that the national hierarchy of his party is not ready to extend any call up to the embattled party chairman and advised other political parties who are interested in him (Paul Afoko) to adopt him as their member. ”The NDC can go for Paul Afoko if they want but we as NPP are not ready to call him back”, he said.

Mr Afoko, who was elected the NPP National Chairman in April 2014, was suspended indefinitely at an emergency NEC meeting at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra on Friday, October 23, 2015. The NPP’s Disciplinary Committee had on October 21, 2015 submitted a report to the NEC of the party recommending the indefinite suspension of Mr Afoko as national chairman, citing his unilateral leadership style as a bane of the party’s progress. At its meeting on Friday, October 23, 2015, the NEC endorsed the recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee and asked the First Vice- Chair, Mr Freddie Blay, to act as national chairman in accordance with the party’s constitution.

The embattled chairman is currently battling his suspension by the party which he described as unconstitutional in court. The NPP’s National Communications Director, Nana Akomea, recently debunked earlier rumors that that the NPP was planning to extend a call up to Paul Afoko as a duly elected party chairman. Suspended National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Paul Afoko, says unless there is a significant change in how the party is being managed, he will not support it financially or materially. He reportedly told the Africa Watch magazine, that the woes he is facing in the party is because of his decision to correct some wrongs to rescue the party’s finances from the hands of what he called unelected people surrounding Nana Akufo Addo. He says his action was resented by the affected people leading to the poisonous situation in the party.

Asked to explain how he is mobilizing support for the NPP in the Amenfi West Constituency as party organizer, John Osway cited the perennial wrangling and bickering within his party as well as activities of suspended party chairman, Paul Afoko, which he added has negatively affected the NPP’s image and chances of garneringafokoafoko massive support towards the upcoming general elections. He however urged Ghanaians to vote the NPP to power to correct the anomalies of the NDC government.
