The Concerned Youth Association (CYO), a Kumasi based group has alleged the NPP flag-bearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo does not respect the overlord of Ashanti, Otumfuo Osei-Tutu II as the former’s posturing in visits to the Manhyia palace depicts same.
They claimed the NPP flag-bearer rather accords maximum respect to the chief of Kyebi, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori-Panin who they alleged is greeted by the flag-bearer with a bended knee.
Addressing a press conference in Kumasi, Nana Agyenim Boateng, also known in political circles as Gyataba noted the flag-bearer’s dislike for the Ashanti King.
But in a sharp rebuttal, Stephen Amoah, Regional Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) described the allegations as false and baseless.
According to him, the relationship between the Asantehene and Nana Addo can best be described as that of a father and a son.
ALLEGATIONS:
Mr Agyenim Boateng alleged the NPP flag-bearer had on countless occasions treated with disdain chiefs the Asantehene had appointed to ceremonies in the Eastern Region where he the flag-bearer hails from.
According to him, at a recent durbar of chiefs at Kyebi the NPP flag-bearer treated the Asamponghene who was represented Otumfuo at the ceremony as ordinary.
Gyataba claimed that rather than bowing the knee as the NPP flag-bearer does when he is greeting the Okyehene at his palace and public places, Nana Addo stood straight before the Asampong chief at the ceremony.
The group, therefore, called on Asanteman to punish these actions of the NPP flag-bearer by voting against him in the upcoming presidential elections so as to teach him a lesson to respect the Asantehene.
REBUTTAL:
In a strong worded rebuttal when he spoke to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper, the NPP Ashanti Regional Organizer denied all the allegations being leveled against the flag-bearer.
According to him, it was common knowledge the United Front Party (UFP) former presidential hopeful was doing the bidding of the ruling NDC.
He said, ‘it is common knowledge that Gyataba has collected money from the NDC to carry out this shameful and tribal gymnastics’.
‘’Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been a true friend to Otumfuo and had always shown true and uncommon respect to Otumfuo and what is amazing in their relationship is that the very place of abode when the NPP flag-bearer comes to Ashanti has been the residence of the Asante Overlord’’, Mr Amoah, also known as Stica summed up.
