Jasikan Chief commends gov’t for rural Agric program

Agriculture News-The Chief of the Jasikan Traditional Area, Nana Boakye IV has commended the President, Nana Ado Dankwa Akufo-Addo for deepening the local governance system by instituting periodic monitoring of projects as well as social intervention initiatives such as the rural agric program.

This, he noted is the best way to ensure those who are in the rural parts of the country cultivate enough to feed themselves and sell the surplus for income.

Speaking at a durbar at Jasikan during a tour by the Deputy Minister of Local Government in charge of Rural Economic Development and Agriculture, the Chief lauded the initiative by government to assess local assemblies.

He commended the Deputy Minister, Hon Collins Augustin Ntim for being diligent in visiting the local assemblies in the Volta Region to assess the progress of work and projects they are undertaking in their respective areas.

‘’It is commendable to see the President show so much concern about the development of local assemblies in the country and to see the Deputy Minister take time to visit each assembly in the Volta Region we are sure that they want the initiatives such as rural agriculture to thrive’’, the Chief noted with passion.

CHARGE:

The Chief charged the local assemblies to ensure they do their part to support the government in the implementation of such social intervention policies.

He urged the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to emulate the work rate of the Deputy Minister so they can ensure programs such as the planting for food and jobs and others thrive in the Volta Region.

The Chief said the success of the interventions introduced by government will not only ensure availability of food but also jobs of the people of the Volta Region.

He, therefore, charged the citizenry and the local assemblies to offer support in any way they can so as to ensure the projects they have individually instituted will bear the necessary fruits.

‘’Learn from Hon Collins Ntim and work to ensure the people get the necessary reliefs from the projects and initiatives government is implementing’’, the Chief noted.

RESPONSE:

Speaking to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper after the durbar, Hon Ntim commended the MMDCEs in the 21 districts of the Volta Region.

He noted from Kadjebi to Jasikan the assemblies had put in place mechanisms to ensure rural agric, planting for food and jobs and other initiatives thrive in their respective localities.

Hon Ntim, however, urged the assemblies to take particular interest in ensuring they conduct statutory meetings, collect their internally generated funds on time as well as ensure they monitor the planting for food and jobs program well.

The Deputy Minister expressed government’s commitment in propping up the rural economy by empowering farmers to cultivate for export in the planting for export and rural development program.

‘’The Nana Addo government is committed to empowering the rural farmer and all others in the initiatives it has introduced so that collectively the people can become self-sufficient’’, Hon Ntim posited.
