Blame GMA for rise in COVID-19 cases-Yammin

Former government official Joseph Yammin has laid blame for Ghana’s rising number of COVID-19 cases at the doorstep of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).

Joseph Yammin, in a write-up to www.rawgist.com insisted that the GMA cannot be taken seriously since it seems to be sucking up to the government instead of being the leading voice on the way forward as far as the pandemic is concerned.

Though the source of Mr. Yammin’s information is not known to us, he insists the government takes decisions on health in this pandemic times without the input of the GMA. He went as far as equating the GMA to a “toothless dog” citing how the government ignored their opposition to the lifting of the lockdown last year, their opposition to the reopening of churches and more recently, schools. He also wonders why they are not coming out strongly about lack of PPEs in schools and medical facilities presently.

“The government consults political science Doctors in taking decisions as far as COVID-19 is concerned and then the GMA follows suit. What is even annoying is that after the government takes a decision, they are then brought into a meeting and briefed on the reason behind the decision. That’s why we are having another wave of the pandemic” he said angrily.

Mr. Yammin questioned the attitude of the GMA and recounted how they would embark on strikes in the past to drive home their demands. “Is there a reason for their new found attitude?” he asked.
