When the girlfriend of a 24-year-old man decided to settle their argument over her alleged infidelity with a curse, little did she know that the decision would come back to haunt her.
Akwasi Sumaila, aka McCarthy, a Kejetia shoe seller, hanged himself in his room at Tafo-Ahinbronum in the Ashanti Region.
The body of Akwasi was first seen by his grandmother, Madam Adwoa Badu, who ironically was also the last person to have seen him alive.
Briefing the Daily Graphic, the grandmother said Sumaila called her Thursday last week, complaining that his girlfriend had cursed him (Sumaila) and that any time he was alone, he felt like committing suicide.
Madam Badu said she rushed down to the area and together with Sumaila’s uncles and the landlord met the girl involved, who confirmed that she had cursed Sumaila.
According to the grandmother, the girl claimed she resorted to the gods because Sumaila had accused her (the girlfriend) of infidelity.
Wailing intermittently, the grandmother added that she and the girl’s relatives visited the chief priest of the god involved and performed all the rituals required to overturn the curse and were given the assurance that nothing evil would happen.
Madam Badu said because Sumaila had been behaving strangely, she hardly left him alone.
But the unfortunate happened when she went to take her shower. When she returned, Sumaila was nowhere to be found, and a search led her to the lifeless body of her grandchild, who had hung himself with a piece of cloth in another room in the house.
The Tafo-Pankrono police have since taken the body to the morgue for autopsy and had initiated investigations into the incident.
