Otumfuo celebrates mothers & summons Presidential candidates for a weekend of golf towards peace in 2016

gulf4Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Sunday celebrated mothers during the closing ceremony of the 59th Asantehene Gold Golf Cup.

The four-day tournament coincided with the birthday of the powerful king who played with his friends to open the tournament which started last Thursday and ended Sunday.

During the closing ceremony, Otumfuo beckoned to people who were dancing to Tilda’s sweet mother to step forward and dance to the honor of mothers; a gesture that saw both Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians stepping forward to dance gleefully.

During his speech to mark the end of the tournament, Otumfuo, stated the need to pray for peace during this election year although he did not “habour serious concerns about the peace of the country in this election year”. He expressed confidence in the commitment of Ghana’s Presidential aspirants to the country “before, during and after the elections”.

He used the opportunity to hint all Presidential candidates of a planned “weekend of Golf for peace and National unity in 2016”. The great King believes that though they may not be avid Golfers, they could use the opportunity to introduce themselves to the game of golf while at the same time fraternizing with each other in a manner that fosters peace. Otumfuo suggested that during that period, the Ghanaian media abstains from political discussions all together.

The tournament was sponsored by Ghana’s largest telecommunications network; MTN. The CEO of MTN Mr. Ebenezer Twum Asante thanked Asanteman for their support for MTN and emphasized MTNs commitment to them.

He revealed the month-long Ashantifest will even bring MTN closer to them as they get the opportunity to engage and interract with each other through such events as the MTN Business Fair, health walks and various fora.
