Otumfuo Asks Religious Leaders To Mobilise Resources To Support Education.

religiousOtumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has called on religious organisations to mobilise more resources for the development of education.

He said religious leaders should step up their efforts at helping to create the opportunity for education, which is important in the fight to overcome poverty, diseases and other indignities.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu said literacy would undoubtedly help the people to significantly improve their way of doing things and to make informed decisions and choices.

He made the call in an address read on his behalf at the inauguration of the Kumasi Chapter of Ghana Institute of Linguistics Literacy and Bible Translation (GILLBT).

GILLBT is an international Christian organisation dedicated to the spread of the Gospel in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions.

Established in 1962, it has worked to translate the New Testament into 23 languages and the entire Bible into five languages.

Alongside the propagation of the scriptures, it has introduced a gender promotion programme, under which more than 400, 000 people have been assisted to acquire various forms of literacy skills.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu praised the Institute for its contribution to the cause of education and urged other religious bodies to emulate it.

The Reverend Dr Kwabena Darko, Kumasi Chapter Chairman, said they are determined to work hard to achieve their mission of helping to make the society, better.
