Accra Metropolitan University Inaugurates Governing Council to Propel Higher Education Excellence

Accra, Ghana — In a colourful and historic ceremony, the Accra Metropolitan University (Accra Met) has officially inaugurated its Governing Council, a major step forward in fulfilling the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission’s (GTEC) requirements following the university’s receipt of a presidential charter.

The event, which took place at the university’s campus, brought together academia, policymakers, traditional leaders, and education stakeholders to witness the formal induction of a diverse team of seasoned professionals and experts tasked with steering the university’s governance and strategic direction.

The Founder and Acting President of Accra Met, Professor Goski Alabi, expressed her utmost confidence in the newly constituted Council, emphasizing the vital role it will play in shaping the university’s academic, administrative, and developmental trajectory. She reiterated the institution’s commitment to excellence, gender inclusion, and innovation, announcing that future appointments would further reflect gender balance and diversity.

“The inauguration of this Governing Council is not just a statutory requirement—it is a reaffirmation of our vision to build a modern, inclusive, and globally respected institution of higher learning,” Prof. Alabi stated.

The Chairman of the Governing Council, His Royal Majesty Drolor Bosso Adamtey, also known for his visionary leadership and dedication to transformational development, pledged to uphold principles of transparency, integrity, and accountability in the Council’s oversight role. He noted that the Council would work closely with university management to ensure academic quality, institutional growth, and social impact.

A highlight of the ceremony was a special tribute to Professor Joshua Alabi, who was recognized for his exceptional leadership and commitment to tertiary education in Ghana. Prof. Alabi played a key advisory role in the university’s journey from Laweh University College to its current status as Accra Metropolitan University, a fast-evolving hub of academic innovation.
