Occupy Ghana threatens legal action to compel Auditor General’s department live up to its responsibility

occupyghanaOccupy Ghana movement has threatened a series of  legal actions to compel the Auditor General’s Department to live up to its responsibility of checking against wanton dissipation of public resources.

The Auditor General has variously made adverse findings against heads of certain public institutions entrusted with public funds and after submitting his report to Parliament for scrutiny the matter dies there with the state unable to recover these embezzled funds or sanction culprits.

But Occupy Ghana, a non-political pressure group believes public sector corruption can be nipped in the bud if state institutions especially the Auditor General gather  courage to exercise its enormous powers under the 1992 constitution.

Addressing the media as part of activities to commemorate 100 days since embarking on their protest march on July 1 2014 against the bad economic policies of government, Spokesman of the group, Nana Akwasi Awuah said they would soon commence legal proceedings so the Auditor General will be empowered to work.

Nana Awuah further noted that the group will embark on another protest march against government.

One of the members of Occupy Ghana, Kathy Addy  expressed displeasure about how the Auditor General’s indifference was causing the State huge sums of money in revenue.
