MTN/Zoomlion cleans Kumasi streets

Ghana News-Telecommunication giant, MTN-Ghana in collaboration with Zoomlion Ghana Limited has embarked on a clean-up exercise in Kumasi.

The exercise which took place from the street adjacent to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) through to the Kumasi catering guest house junction in Adum, was to clear the streets from the litter and refuse passengers deliberately dump when on board vehicles.

Being a joint initiative by both companies, scores of their workers draped in outfits reflecting their brand cleaned and collected litter on the streets in a two hour exercise.

Urged on by superiors at their offices, staff and workers of the two companies along the routes cleared pile of refuse on the roadside.

Speaking to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper, Nii Adotey Mingle, General Manager for MTN-Northern Business District revealed the joint initiative is part of the company’s month long social responsibility project.

Popularly christened ‘Yello-care’, Mr Adotey Mingle said the company by this volunteer project responds to the needs of its customers.

Some of these needs and challenges, he noted is health related which needed prompt attention.

The decision to clean the roads, Mr Adotey Mingle mentioned is to inculcate into the people especially passengers the need to keep litter in vehicles they board.

‘’We deliberately chose to clean the streets so that passengers and drivers alike will see the need to keep litter in vehicles they are on so as to keep our streets clean’’, Mr Adotey Mingle stressed.

OTHER INITIATIVE:

Meanwhile, in Ejisu scores of residents were trained how to make soap and other household detergents.

This, another initiative by MTN-Ghana is to underscore the company’s commitment to investing into the lives of its customers.

Speaking to this reporter, Auntie Mansa, an indigene expressed profuse appreciation to MTN for enabling her to learn the art of soap making.

Isaac Amoako, an unemployed young man praised the company for the initiative and urged other companies to follow suit so they imbibe some entrepreneurial or artisanal traits in the populace.
