Minister’s intervention stops a planned demonstration against Kumasi mayor

For the timely intervention of the Ashanti Regional minister the streets of Kumasi would have witnessed a massive demonstration in kojo-bonsuKumasi Tuesday against the Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu.

The demonstration, organized by a group known as the NDC Northern Sector Association was to protest the decision to move drivers around mbrom station to join a terminal at Suame hill top.

They accused the mayor of taking bribe from an individual to eject them and maintained that they will do all within their abilities to resist the ejection.

The KMA as part of its effort to de-congest the city, has directed all long distance vehicles to load at a terminal at  Suame hill top, but the drivers say the Mayor is being manipulated by a private individual for his personal gains.

Chairman of the group, Sadique Abubakr told Ultimate radio the demonstration had to be suspended after the Ashanti regional Minister Samuel Sarpong intervened.

He says the group will go ahead with the demonstration at a later date if the Regional Minister does not give them any positive response in two days.
