Ghanaian Doctors rely too much on their brains, need machines and other equipment-Medical Director

Medical Director of the Chiraa Health Center in the Bono region; Dr. Derrick Kumi Frimpong has called for health facilities to be adequately resourced to prevent Medical practitioners from relying too much on their brains for treatment.

Dr. Kumi Frimpong who was speaking at the commissioning of an ultra-modern Out-Patient Department for the Chiraa Health Centre built by a selfless native of the town; Boaman Obed Asante, believes that Ghanaian Doctors are limited in their ability to save lives because they rely too much on their brains with no accompanying machines to work with.

The OPD was also designed as an emergency unit and has a furnished operating theatre, a male and female ward, 2 consulting rooms which are all fully furnished with office furniture and hospital equipment including one Anaesthesia machine from Germany, health monitors, beds, wheelchairs, stretchers amongst others.

Dr. Kumi Frimpong who was extremely grateful for the facility believes that with adequate machines and equipment, more lives can be saved in various health facilities across the country. He explain that he has had to operate with an empty laboratory and woefully inadequate equipment and hence falls on clinical experience to make judgments many times. He believes this plight is the same for many Doctors; a situation he says will not auger well for the healthcare of the country.

“Sometimes we doctors are frustrated. We can save lives but we don’t have things to work with” he lamented.

He appealed to philanthropists and other humanitarian organizations to help them with a laboratory, wards and machines for neonatal care.

The Philanthropist; Boaman Obed Asante is the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Nuts Company limited, a company based in Techiman.
