Deputy NADMO coordinator Joseph Yammin has dared the NPP in the Ashanti region to go ahead and touch NDC polling agents on election day as declared by the Ashanti NPP chairman.
Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako in a radio interview on Okay fm morning show Monday hosted by Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie said that if the IGP goes ahead to block social media on elections day, he was going to order for every NDC agent seen using walkie-talkies to be attacked. He believes the Police is in bed with the NDC and are conniving to shut down social media to the advantage of the NDC. “They have imported some gadgets to enable communication among their activists and agents and they will deliberately block social media to frustrate the opposition party. I heard the conversation between some police officials when I was in the cells. They started using the gadgets a day after I was arrested in the Ashanti region…most of the NDC party members have started using the gadgets. They are distributing this walkie-talkie machine to all the polling station agents of the NDC so that when they block social media and other radio stations they will still have access to themselves. They are doing this with the IGP that’s why I am telling you that he’s corrupt. I even told my party people about it” he alleged and added that he is not afraid to face the police because he knows the security services are not on the NPP’s side. “This election is the election of our lives”, he lamented.
Joseph Yammin has however retorted on the same radio station saying that “if he will cause the beating of NDC agents, we will go beyond that; we will touch 4 NPP agents for every NDC agent who gets beaten”. He called on the Police to step up and set things right otherwise “the Ashanti region may not be as peaceful as anybody wants to see it. Two things may happen; either we will not vote at all in the Ashanti region or it will be a chaotic scene “, he said.
He cautioned Chairman Wontumi against taking advantage of any possible shutdown of social media to perpetrate violence since the NDC has a great penchant to match them in a violent atmosphere.
He recounted how Robert Owusu Tilton; an NDC Communicator was condemned, arrested and prosecuted over his infamous “cutlass” comments and wondered why he has not heard anything from the Police regarding Wontumi’s pronouncement.
“President Mahama is a man of peace but that peaceful nature does not stretch to all members of the NDC. We will not sit down for anyone to cower us into submission. Advise your relatives prior to the election to vote quietly and return home. Anything order than that will get them at places they might not want”, Yammin said.
