Asawase NDC: Party office locked, Muntaka contender unable to file nomination

The anger among NDC supporters in the Asawase constituency is getting to a crescendo as a contender to the MP; Masawudu Mubarick and his supporters were locked outside the party office when they went to file their candidature.

A disappointed Masawudu told www.rawgist.com they will wait outside the office till 5PM and then decide what to do afterwards. “We came here to file but met a closed office. It is against the guidelines of the party. We do not know why the office is closed but we will be here till 5pm and then know what to do afterwards”.

Filing of nominations for the NDC’s Parliamentary primaries begins today and ends tomorrow (18th and 19th July, 2019).

Masawudu Mubarick said he has already written to the nation office of the party expressing his displeasure at the treatment being meted out to him.

He said that some of the utterances of the regional executives are in bad taste and not good for the party.

“I am a paid up member who has worked for the party in many positions. They cannot do that to a party member.”

He however said nothing will cause him to leave the NDC. “I will not leave the party. That is out of the question.”

Some of the angry supporters also accused the Asawase MP of buying some officials of the party. They say the votes of Muntaka has dwindled from 19,000 to a paltry 5000; a situation that makes it clear that the people are dissatisfied with the MP.

Some revealed that about 85% of those gathered outside the party office are Party Delegates and will decide who represents the party.

“Even John Mahama was contested how much less Muntaka” one of the supporters voiced in an interview.
