Elections: Emulate US, Vote based on issues-Political scientist

A political Scientist and Management Consultant who lectures at the Kessben University, Dr. Kofi Owusu Yeboah hasMulti-Party Governance observed that Ghanaians have always been voting for lukewarm presidential candidates who have succeeded in managing the country’s natural and human resources. “The practice of voting on religious and tribal belongings as against issues that determine the agricultural and development agenda must stop now”, he pointed out.

Speaking to this writer on Asankrangwa based Royal FM on the topic, ”The strengths and weaknesses of Ghana’s presidential candidates-Impact on voting pattern in Ghana”,  Kofi Owusu Yeboah was sad that Ghanaian electorates do not vote on prevailing economic conditions and living standards but on what he called “Flimsy reasons”. He is worried that many Ghanaian politicians got it easy by inducing votes to manage the country to our disadvantage.

The political Scientist wants Ghanaians to vote for a president recognized by the grassroots, experienced in business development, national governance, economic management and international relations instead of casting votes on partisan belongings, a practice he said, has been the bane of growing corruption and Ghana’s underdevelopment. The prospective president must have a great drive for investment, industrial development for employment generation, a coalition builder and a master of policy implementations.

According to him, the 2016 electioneering campaign has been dirtier than previous election years because instead of focusing on issues, some of the presidential candidates and party communicators have reduced the campaign to that of insults that breed rancor and bitterness in the country. Kofi Owusu Yeboah is urging the electorate teach those politicians a great lesson by voting for a development-focused president.

Commenting on the victory of America’s new president, Donald Trump, who has defied the odds to become the country’s 45th president contrary to earlier predictions blaming his avowed stance to reduce the rate of immigration to the United States and his no-nonsense speeches for his poor showing in polls conducted by mainstream media houses and research centers, He commended American voters for voting for their country’s future wellbeing..

Though Mrs. Hillary Clinton was tipped to win, American electorates decided otherwise. “A people that elect corrupt politicians are victims of bad political leadership, but accomplices”, He maintained.
