Take cyber security serious or risk losing a lot-Carl Amanor Sackey cautions Ghanaians

Cyber Security Practitioner; Carl Amanor Sackey has encouraged Ghanaians and Ghanaian business organizations to take Cyber Security and Data protection seriously as failure to do so can cost them a lot.

Mr. Sackey who was the guest on MTN’s Bright Media Series said it is not for nothing that individuals, companies, organizations and nations are spending billions cumulatively on cyber security.

“Don’t leave the cyber security of your organisation to chance. If you don’t protect your data, someone will get your information and it will go against you”, he emphasized.

The IT expert took online participants through the methods used by cyber criminals to infiltrate the accounts of unsuspecting individuals and organizations. He explained such tools as phishing, spear phishing, malware, spam, ransom ware and several others and advised on how to avoid such attacks.

Mr. Amanor Sackey cautioned people against sharing social media or email messages with unknown links and to also avoid clicking on links they know nothing about since these links when clicked upon may expose their accounts to cyber criminals.

He encouraged the use of reliable antivirus softwares, frequent change of passwords and the use of strong passwords to protect various online accounts. He cautioned against the use of predictable passwords and the use of one password for all or various accounts.

The discussion, which included staff of MTN, journalists and representatives of other organizations forms part of MTN Ghana’s efforts at reducing online fraud and cyber-related crimes in the country.
