SSNIT under pressure as it embarks on biometric registration exercise

Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributors in formal and informal sectors of the Ghanaian economy continue to besiege the offices of the Trust to register for Biometric Smart Cards.

SSNIT members and pensioners are currently undergoing biometric registration to aid speedy and quality service in its business.

Contributors throng into the offices of SSNIT in the Ashanti Region as early as 5am each day to await their turn in queue.

The Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) for SSNIT, Mr. Oteng Adjei described the general exercise as “good but with some teething challenges”. The PRO expressed worry about the mad rush of members as it intents to register all contributors.

He says “SSNIT officials will contact employers and agree on the period within which their workers will undertake the Biometric Registration”. “SSNIT will contact pensioners through the SSNIT National Pensioners’ Association for scheduled Biometric Registration”

He also advises members of the SSNIT National Pensioners’ Association to contact the Association for scheduled Biometric Registration” and directs non-members of the SSNIT National Pensioners’ Associationto contact SSNIT Centre Contact 030261122 or visit the nearest Branch for scheduled Biometric Registration”
