Punish officials who fail to declare assets – Emile Short

Emile ShortFormer Commissioner of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, (CHRAJ), Justice Emile Short wants public officials who do not declare their assets punished.

According to him, Ghana’s assets declaration law is weak and does very little to stop corruption.

Justice Short wants the law to be amended to make it more useful so public officials who fail to declare their assets are named, shamed and punished.

In an interview with Starr News, he said government must implement his proposals if it is serious about fighting corruption.

“An institution or an individual must be mandated to check the accuracy of the declaration, to check whether people are complying with the obligation to file the declaration at specified intervals and to take action if it is not done and then made public,” Justice said.
