Police caution AFAG

afagThe Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned the leadership of the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) to desist from violating terms and agreements finalised with the police when embarking on demonstrations.

The police expressed dissatisfaction with the group’s behaviour during its recent demonstration.

A statement released and signed by ASP Efia Tenge, the Accra Regional Public Relations Officer, noted that on Wednesday, 12th November, 2014, the group defied police directive to use some designated routes agreed upon by the police and its leadership, and went through the crowded Accra Business District area, raising serious security concerns.

According to the Public Relations Officer, considering the fact that the police has had a very good working relationship with the group, as far as demonstrations in Accra are concerned, coupled with the fact that the group has formally rendered an unqualified apology to the police and also through the media, the police have decided to issue a word of caution to the group and not pursue the matter any further.

She entreated all identifiable groups and individuals who intend to embark on demonstrations in the future to comply with all agreements and arrangements made with the police, adding that going contrary to such terms or agreements will not be countenanced.
