Police calls for help for drug addicts as MTN celebrates 10 years of MoMo

The Manhyia Divisional Police Commander ACP Kwaku Buah has called on Ghana’s largest telecommunications company; MTN to help set up a rehabilitation centre to help save drug addicts in the country.

He says many are perishing daily from drug abuse and its associated dangers.

He suggested such a centre be set up in the Ashanti region as it is now the biggest and most populous region in Ghana.

He also revealed that six dead bodies of drug addicts have been found since the onset of the rains; a situation he finds worrying and cautioned that drug addiction is no respecter of persons or profession.

ACP Buah praised MTN for their several partnerships with the Police to fight crime and hoped that his appeal will be favorably considered.

He also took the market women through some tricks used by MoMo fraudsters and advised them strongly against releasing their PINs and also from following instructions from unknown persons who call and issue them remote instructions that concern Mobile Money.

ACP Kwaku Buah was speaking at an event held in Kumasi to mark the tenth anniversary of MTN Mobile Money in Ghana.

For his part, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi; Osei Assibey Antwi praised MTN for their contribution to employment creation in the country as well as other positive results of their operations. He was also excited at the positive treatment the company gives her staff and partners.

The KMA boss also encouraged residents to be vigilant and report suspected fraudsters and electronic criminals to the authorities to help curtail electronic crime in the country.

He called on MTN to partner the City Authorities to provide wireless internet at certain vantage locations in the Garden City including the Centre for National Culture.

As part of the celebrations, close to twenty randomly selected MoMo customers won cash prizes which was transferred to them live via MTN MoMo.

As part of activities to mark MTN MoMo’s tenth anniversary, ten cars including 2019 Hyundai i10 cars and a grand prize of a Hyundai Santafe will be given out in a promotion. With this promotion, points will be accrued per MoMo transaction and at every draw, those with the highest points will win the fabulous prizes.

The market women at “Dr. Mensah”; a market at the Central Business District of Kumasi where the event was held were excited and promised to continue to learn about the possibilities brought about by MTN MoMo.

The event was filled with lots of entertaining performances from a variety of performers including popular Ghanaian actor; Akrobeto.
