NDC to increase membership by 150,000 in Volta

PorturphyThe National Democratic Congress (NDC) is working towards increasing its membership in the Volta Region by some 150,000 members ahead of the 2016 general elections, John Kwadwo Gyapong, Regional Chairman of the Party hinted on Sunday.

He said the registration of new members is to further increase the base of the Party and make its agenda, “gap one million votes” attainable in the impending presidential elections.

Mr Gyapong was addressing a day’s workshop for Women and Youth organizers of the Agotime-Ziope branch of the party at Kpetoe.

He said the Volta Region is poised to win the elections for NDC and was optimistic that with a million vote gap from the Volta Region, the Party would emerge victorious.

Mr Gyapong said the Party in the Region was putting measures in place to ensure massive turnout on Election Day to avert low turnout, witnessed across the region in the 2012 general elections

He said they were also embarking on voter education campaigns to reduce the number of rejected ballots.

The Regional Chairman called on the national headquarters of the Party to allocate adequate resources to the Volta Region to deliver the votes in 2016.

“We need motorbikes, pick-ups, bicycles, party paraphernalia and some funding for fuel to motivate our people. If these things are provided, I don’t think we will have any problem,” Mr Gyapong stated.

Mr Kofi Adams, National Organizer of the Party said the Volta Region’s target of “gap 1 million votes” is attainable and promised that the national headquarters would give the Region the necessary logistics to deliver results.

He charged executives of the Party at all levels in the Region to remain focused and put in efforts to achieve set targets.

Mr Egypt Kudoto, Volta Regional Organizer of the NDC said the capacity building was to prepare the branch executives ahead of the 2016 elections.

He said 12 constituencies out of the 25 had already benefitted from similar trainings.
