Kwesi Nyantakyi Engaged In Near-Physical Confrontation With Harry Zakour

zakourTension is mounting at the Best Western Premier Hotel In Accra where a meeting of over sixty eminent Ghana Football stakeholders have gathered for a retreat into the state of the country’s football.

Ghanasportsonline.com can confirm that Ghana’s Football Association boss Kwesi Nyantakyi nearly squared up with former Accra Hearts of Oak Board chairman Harry Zakour as a verbal confrontation between the two escalated. Witnesses say the two ‘Eminent’ men had to be separated by some other dignitaries present at the forum.

There is a widespread grapevine that a group of some football administrators have planned a grand scheme to get the GFA boss out of office citing corruption and neglect of the Domestic game as their basis for calling for the head of the 47 year old Lawyer.

The Face-off

The GFA boss in the company of some of his executives invited for the deliberations met up with Harry Zakour who was in a chit chat with King Faisal owner Alhaji Grunsah and some other persons perceived to be in the camp of the anti- Nyantakyi group.

Nyantakyi, in trying to exchange pleasantaries with Zakour and his group, is believed to have uttered some words that didn’t go down well with Zakour as he felt disrespected by the GFA Capo.

An enraged Harry Zakour then yelled at Nyantakyi as “You this boy, we will make sure we remove you from office so that you show respect”.

The confrontation between the two got heated as they moved towards each other angrily and had to be separated from engaging in fisticuffs. The GFA boss subsequently stormed out of the venue and is reported to have been advised to stay away from the retreat for sometime.

The Football Retreat

The Ministry of Youth & Sports, in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) conveyed a meeting of about sixty (60) Eminent Football Administrators to a 2 days Retreat on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th July, 2014 at the Premier Best Western Hotel in the Airport Residential Area of Accra.

This Group of Eminent Football Administrators is made up of personalities with acclaimed experience in both the field of play and football management and administration in Ghana and abroad.

During the retreat the Group is expected to generally reflect on developments in the performance of the country in the area of competitive football and advice on the fashioning out of a national response strategy.

This is the first of a series of meetings of eminent persons in the various disciplines of sports and personalities involved in youth development programmes to help drive the sector.
