Kwahu East: Farmers gets free tractor services from Bryan Acheampong F’dation

To make farming easy and support commercial farming , the Bryan Acheampong Foundation (BAF) is operating free services for all farmers in Kwahu East.

So far, more than 500 acres of farmlands have been ploughed.

The $50,000 tractor have started operations in about 20 communities so far.

This was disclosed Friday when a team led by the Director for development, Mr. Eric Nyarko inspected a 500 acre piece of land which has been put under cultivation of maize.

According to him, the Foundation has absorbed 99% cost while farmers pay 1% fuel cost.

He stated that the tractor service is to introduce farmers to mechanized farming in the District.

The services seeks to achieve, among others, food security and create job opportunities and improve household incomes and stability.

In order to attain planting for Food and Jobs objective of government, BAF is pursuing interventions such as engaging farmers and the youth especially in demonstration farms.

There is also the supply of organic fertilizer to farmers.

Mr. Nyarko noted that the Foundation will continue to supply quality seeds and planting materials to farmers to boost their productions.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) in Kwahu East, Isaac Agyapong, congratulated BAF for not only achieving its objective of reducing poverty, but also setting up the project which has created employment for the youth in the district.

He said the 10 acre land of the demonstration farms on the Kwahu East Farms’ land was ploughed, harrowed for individual farmers.

According to him, the farmers comprised males and females, who were working on the maize farm.

The District Director for MoFA urged Agricultural Extension Agents (AEAs) to collaborate with the Foundation and farmers in order to make the project sustainable.

Mr. Isaac Mensah again commended BAF and the farmers for their good work and urged the farmers to form groups and cultivate crops to boost crop production in the country.
