Kumasi: Youths Attack Fire Service Personnel Over Delay Responses

Residents at Asuofua in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region on Sunday attacked personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service who went to the area to fight a fire razing down some shops.

The fire which started 5:20pm destroyed 3 shops including carpentry shops due to delayed response of Fire Service personnel.

Fire Service personnel arrived at the scene around 6pm after the residents had doused the fire.

Abusua Fm’s Osei Kwadwo reported that the angry residents threw stones at the personnel and the fire tender when the personnel arrived at the scene.

Speaking to former assembly member for Asuofua-Asamang Electoral Area Osei Kwaku Michael said the situation would have been different if the fire personnel arrived at the scene on time.

Meanwhile Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is yet to comment on the matter.
