Police in the Ashanti Regional capital have arrested two persons for possessing items suspected to be narcotics.

Briefing the media Monday afternoon, Central Divisional Commander, ACP Nuhu Jango said the suspects,Razak Yakubu 37, and Adamu Zipo (30) were heading to Niger where their vehicle with registration number GM 4507-12 was impounded upon a tip off.

“At about 8pm we had intelligence that a bus had loaded goods and was headed for niger and was carrying narcotics, so we mobilized our men and intercepted the vehicle…We brought the vehicle to our command in the Ashanti region. It was then late to carry a search so we impounded the vehicle and carried a thorough search this morning and did not get any positive results.. Our intelligence was that there were narcotic substances in the bus concealed in a secret compartment in the back tire…So together with the driver we located and opened up the secret compartment where we found well compacted parcels, 47 in number. The parcels were leaves suspected to be indian hemp, and we are yet to send them to the lab to test and confirm whether indeed they are narcotics,” he stated.

The police chief added the suspects loaded from the Bawku Station in the ashanti region and are in police custody assisting in investigations.
