Kotoko For Sale ?

kotokoExclusive information available to Sports Crusader has it that the Management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko will sell out the club due to their inability to meet the growing expenditure of the club.

Grapevine information within the management of the club indicated that the club is so big that sponsorship monies alone are unable to sustain its growing expenditure. “This has necessitated the idea of giving the club to foreign investors or foreign agents who will be ready to pump in huge monies to reap the returns later”, the source said.

“As it is now, my next major campaign is for Kotoko to get foreign investors. That is the only solution to the problems of Kotoko now. The reason is that, Kotoko is so big that it can’t be run with sponsors, you can’t run Kotoko with supporters now”, it added.

The source went on further to state, “Kotoko wants to conquer Africa but there is no money. After the Dr. K.K. Sarpong administration left, there was a debt of GH¢2.8m (¢28,000,000,000 Old Ghana Cedis). So how do you continue when you have such a debt to pay?

In addition, the source disclosed “if you want to purchase a quality player in Ghana now, you need to doll out not less than GH¢120,000 (GH¢1,200,000,000 old Ghana Cedis) to both the club and the player. Even after paying this huge amount, the parent club will still be demanding a 30% onward transfer fee”.

The source further added that the Board of the club has not helped the management in the day-to-day running of the club in terms of providing the needed financial support to propel the club to the needed level.

Life Patron of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has charged the management of the club to win silverware in Africa as the domestic league is nothing to write home about. However, the source concluded by saying that, “we can only conquer Africa with money and the best way to get the money is to sell the club or give it to foreign investors”.
