Konadu strengthens bid for full-time Ghana coaching role

Maxwell KonaduStand-in trainer Maxwell Konadu strengthened his bid to become Ghana coach permanently following the Black Stars 3-1 defeat of Guinea 3-1 in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. The 41-year-old is currently in charge of the country’s home-based national team, but he is now two matches unbeaten in his caretaker role for the senior team.

With the Black Stars coaching interview in chaos over the arrival of coaches, the Ghana FA is being encouraged to consider Konadu as an option.

Five coaches were shortlisted for the position but only three are scheduled to arrive for the interview.

This has thrown the process into doubt with many urging the GFA to consider Konadu as an option.

The result in Tamale means Ghana is looking almost certain to qualify from Group E thanks to Wednesday’s victory.

The two sides faced each other in Casablanca rather than Guinea on Saturday due to the breakout of the Ebola virus in West Africa, drawing 1-1, and Ghana were keen to make amends in front of their own supporters.
