International relations expert warns against use of brute military force in dealing with Boko Haram militants

bokoharamAn international relations expert and Islamic scholar Sheikh Ibad Ibrahim says it would be detrimental to the safety of the abducted Nigerian school girls if a brute military approach is used to deal with the Islamic Boko Haram militants.

According to him the option of mounting a military rescue mission would result in the death of some of the girls in the process.

Boko Haram militants Monday released a video footage which showed about 130 of more than 200 girls who were kidnapped a month ago from their boarding school in Borno state reciting Koranic verses.

The leader of the group, Abubakar Shekau in the video requested for the release of jailed militants in exchange for the girls.

Nigeria has since said it is considering all options to address the pressing situation which has caused public outcry in the last few weeks.

Sheikh Ibad Ibrahim says to get the girls back alive, the best option would be to meet the demands of the group half way.
