IGP urges hard work and discipline

Mr Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, Inspector General of Police (IGP)Mr Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan, Inspector General of Police (IGP), has urged personnel of the service to act professionally and be human in the discharge of their duties.

He said personnel must show empathy and treat people with dignity, as it was the way to win the confidence, support and co-operation of the public.

The IGP was inaugurating a rest-stop built by the Sekyere Rural Bank for the police near the Asante-Mampong scarp to aid the fight of highway robbery on the Kumasi-Mampong road.

The stretch of the road between Jamasi and Nintin is noted for robbery attacks and the expectation is that the strong police presence there would scare away the criminals.

Mr Alhassan said ensuring security was a shared responsibility and that it was important to encourage all to play their part.

He reminded the people to accept to live within the law to ensure order and peace in the society.

The IGP appealed for more support to the police not only by way of supply of logistics but useful leads that would enable them to track down and arrest criminals.

He praised the Ashanti Regional Police Command for the tremendous effort it was making to reduce the incidence of armed robbery.

He expressed appreciation to the bank for the gesture and urged other institutions to emulate its example.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kofi Boakye, Regional Commander, re-affirmed their determination to go the extra mile to reduce attacks on travelers.

He said the rest-stop would not only serve as an information point for the police but also a rest point for drivers.

Dr Noble Kwadwo Obese-Antwi, Chief Executive Officer of Sekyere Rural Bank, said the structure formed part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility.

Mr Joseph Sarfo Adjei, Board Chairman, pledged continued assistance to the police.
