"Government should stop passing on its incompetence to poor Muslim pilgrims"-Concerned Pilgrims

HAJJA group of Muslims has blamed the government for the rising cost of their annual hajj pilgrimage.

The group; Coalition of Concerned Ghanaian Muslim Pilgrims says the rate at which the cost of hajj is rising is alarming.

Publicity Secretary of the group, Samudeen Mustapha says government is to be blamed for the trend as a result of the poor management of the country’s economy.

The National Hajj Committee at a recent News conference pegged the 2014 Hajj fares at $3,450. However, the Coalition of Concerned Ghanaian Muslim Pilgrims claimed potential Pilgrims could not afford to pay the said amount.

The group has also accused the Hajj Committee of refusing to grant them audience on the matter.

“So far we’ve not heard anything from the Hajj Committee but we are pressing on. We have been in touch with them up to a point that now they are not picking our calls.”

Samudeen also asked government to intervene and lessen the burden of Hajj pilgrims and “stop passing their incompetence on Muslim Pilgrims.”

The group also reacted to impressions that government subsidizes Hajj fees for Pilgrims. The group says government only subsidizes fees of those sympathetic to its cause.
