GJA slams Gyan for masterminding assaults on journalist

BgyanThe Ghana Journalist Association’s Kumasi branch has issued a statement brandishing brother of Black Stars captain – Asamoah Gyan, Baffour Gyan for leading a group of thugs who beat a Ghanaian journalist for asking a question during a press soiree.

The body is extremely unhappy about the assault on the journalist and has under no uncertain terms condemned the broad day brutalisation of the journalist in Kumasi where the Black Stars are to host Uganda in the 2015 AFCON qualifier.

“It should be put on record that whether Asamoah Gyan likes it or not, the rumour is out there and the reporter without any malice wished that he used the occasion to clear himself”, the statement signed by Listowell Yesu Bukarson, Chairman and Kingsley E. Hope, Secretary, said.

The GJA says it “finds it strange and shocking that such a nice opportunity given to the player should be abused”.

A statement by the Ashanti branch of the GJA said Daniel Kenu had gone to the Baba Yara stadium on Friday to pick his accreditation for the Ghana-Uganda AFCON qualifiers game scheduled for Saturday, when Asamoah Gyan’s brother and the machomen accosted him without provocation.

Baffour Gyan, a member of the Ghana squad for the 2008 AFCON, led the charge and delivered punches at the Daily Graphic reporter before he waved the alerted machomen to join in the attack who beat the journalist.

Friday’s assault of Kenu by Baffour followed a near confrontation against the same journalist by Asamoah Gyan at the Miklin hotel on Wednesday during a press conference organised by the Ghana Football Association.

The journalist had asked the Al Ain striker to clear the air on rumours surrounding the disappearance of Ghanaian popular musician Castro who has gone missing since going on holiday with the striker in a Ghanaian resort – Ada.
