The Ghana Federation of Disabled is calling for a review of the mode of distribution of the disability fund.
According to the federation the cumbersome processes involved in the disbursement of the fund does not allow for proper monitoring thereby making it susceptible to misapplications.
The call comes follows the diversion of the disability fund by the District Chief Executives for Bole in the Northern Region, James Jaga, who is said to have used monies meant for people living with disability in the district to host a conference for DCEs.
There have been various reports of similar misappropriation of the Disability Funds by Assemblies in whose accounts the fund is lodged before disbursement.
In an interview with Live News, President of Ghana Federation of Disabled Yaw Ofori – Debrah said the disability fund management committee should be given the mandate to disburse the fund in order to check against misapplication.
