Face to face: Ministry of Sports to meet Ministry of Finance over meagre budget

ministry-sportsThe Ministry of Youth and Sports is set to meet the Ministry of Finance over its meagre budget allocation.

According to the spokesperson of the Youth and Sports Ministry; Mr. Auto Plaha, the money allocated for sports in the 2016 budget is very minimal. This has necessitated a crucial meeting with the Ministry of Finance for a to-up to be made to cushion the activities of the sports Ministry.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Nhyira fm, “Our budget for this year is very small around GH₵32m, but the programs we have this year are numerous and this money cannot suffice. So, we have decided as a ministry through the chief of staff to hold a meeting with the Minister of Finance for our money to be raised a little because of our varied activities” he said.

One controversial point raised by the Spokesperson was that, the Ghana Football Association is to accompany the Sports Ministry to meet the Finance Ministry but not other Associations. It was however, clarified that due to the hugeness of the GFA’s spending, they are needed to be present in order to present their outline of events before the Finance Minister.

The lspokesperson could not disclose the date of this meeting to rawgist.com. Sources close to rawgist.com however say it is due in two weeks’ time pending the swearing-in of the new Sports Minister.
