Expect more rain – Meteorological Service

accra-floodGhanaians will have to brace themselves for more rains as an observed thunderstorm is said to be heading towards Ghana from Benin.

According to the Ghana Meteorological Service, the rains will be more intense from now till the second week of June.

Some parts of the capital have been submerged in water while scores have lost their lives in the floods which worsened on Wednesdays night.

Director General of the Ghana Meteorological Service, Group Captain Komla speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show said the trend will continue for the next two days and perhaps extend into the second week of June.

“It is expected that the Southern part of the country will definitely experience some more heavy rains today,” he added.

According to him, the major rainy season of Ghana is between May and July, followed by September-October which is the minor rainy season.

About a hundred people died as a result of a fire at the GOIL fuel station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra amidst a heavy rainfall on Wednesday.

Some bodies were pulled out of cars which had been parked at the station, but it is suspected that most of the deceased were seeking shelter from the rain.
