Education Minister sues Sammy Gyamfi over defamatory comments

Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, Member of Parliament for Manhyia South and Education Minister has commenced legal action against Sammy Gyamfi, Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the latter’s unsavoury and defamatory comments.

In a writ of summons copied to the Ghanaian Observer newspaper dated 24th June, 2019 counsel for the MP, Sarkodie Baffuor Awuah and Partners
are asking for a one million cedis damages against the NDC man.

Similarly, the writ from the Accra High Court gave the NDC officer 8 days to enter appearance at the court to either defend the claims made or otherwise.

If readers would recall the NDC communication officer two weeks ago linked the Manhyia South MP to one of the persons who carried out the kidnapping of two Canadian ladies in Kumasi early this month.

INJURIOUS STATEMENTS:
The NDC communications officer on the 13th of June in a press conference alleged that Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh had been using one of the accused persons, Seidu Mba as an errand boy.

Sammy Gyamfi at same conference said the NDC were sure that the Manhyia South MP had benefited from  the violent operations of Seidu Mba.

At a similar forum, Kwame Zu, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC also claimed Seidu Mba was a worker for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako and the Manhyia South MP, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

Mr Zu also claimed the accused had been seen in many occasions to be running errands for Dr Prempeh, who is popularly referred to as Napo.

INTRANSIGENCE:
In his magnanimous act, Dr Prempeh two days after the said utterances of the two notable NDC figures gave them opportunity to purge themselves from their injurious and malicious comments.

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh in that gesture gave the two the chance to withdraw and apologise for their false claims by writing to them through his solicitors.

However, Sammy Gyamfi on the 17th day of June repeated the claims he had made earlier about the Manhyia South legislator on Asempa Fm.

The NDC communication officer on the show wanting to extricate himself when his attention was drawn to Napo’s demand for the withdrawal of the injurious and malicious comments 1said he did not make emphatic statements to warrant an apology from him.

He noted that he used the word ‘alleged’ and posited that does not connote an emphatic or factual statement.
