Hon. Martin Kwaku Adjei-Mensah Korsah, former Minister of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development wishes the government of John Dramani Mahama continues the University of Local Governance and Development project.
The former Minister, who is also Member of Parliament for Techiman South expressed his wish after the vetting of Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim Banda (MP) who has been nominated as the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
He explained in an interview with Link FM in Techiman that the project took shape during the NPP’s regime but failed to see the light of day due to the “unfortunate” end of the 8th Parliament.
He therefore wants the incoming Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to take up what is left of the legislative documents regarding the university and run with it. He believes the setting up of the University will inure to the benefit of the nation.
The institution; the first of its kind in Ghana, is set to address the critical needs and gaps in the country’s local government system.
He recalled that former President Nana Akufo Addo already gave Executive approval for the project and explained that all what is left is for the new Minister to send another bill to Parliament for approval towards the realization of the project.
