Deputy Minister for Agriculture dismisses fears of looming famine

Relax! There will be no famine in Ghana any time soon. That is an assurance coming from the Deputy Minister for Agriculture in Charge of Horticulture; Hon. George Oduro.

Mr. Oduro who was speaking on Kumasi based Kessben FM explained that the government has put in several interventions that are already yielding positive results for the Agricultural sector.

He spoke about government’s flagship Agric programme; Planting for Food and Jobs as well as the one district one warehouse initiative and explains that these government policies and more plus provisions made in the budget are more than enough to avert any food crisis.

He assures Ghanaians of the President’s commitment to their well-being whiles restating his resolve to contribute to the lot of Ghanaians.

He also touched on several developments in the Agricultural sector and sought to expose what he believes is political propaganda being circulated by the NDC regarding fertilizer subsidies.

He explained that the NDC only ordered fertilizers that they did not pay for, leaving the current government to bear the bills. He also sought to distinguish between fertilizers being used for the “Planting for food and jobs” programme and that being given to cocoa farmers and lamented that the inequity in distribution has caused the NPP to stop its free distribution.
