Asante Akim North Independence parade well attended despite sabotage attempts

AgogoDespite earlier warning by the Agogo Youth Association to boycott the 59th Independence Day Anniversary segment in the district, the event attracted scores of people from all walks of life.

The colourful event attracted the clergy, traditional rulers, Imams, security personnel, Heads of Departments in the area, Assembly members, functionaries from the National Democratic Congress in the constituency, teachers and students from select schools.

Visibly absent at the event were the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Kwadwo Baah Agyemang , NDC parliamentary candidate Mary Awusi and NPP’s Andy Appiah Kubi.

The youth have accused authorities of doing very little to flush out nomadic Fulani headsmen in the area, hence their decision to boycott the event.

District Chief Executive (DCE) Paul Kingsley Arweh Averu mounted the podium to address a parade of school children and other voluntary organizations.

The DCE announced the Assembly has budget an amount of Thirty Thousand Ghana Cedis as bursaries and other financial supports for brilliant but needy students in the district.

He also disclosed that an amount of One Thousand Ghana Cedis has been set aside for any students who will eAgogo-DCEmerge as the overall best student in the Basic Education Certificate Examination every year.

Hon. Averu advised the students to take their studies seriously as the Assembly plans to roll more comprehensive packages for them to bridge the gap between those in cities and rural schools.

Celebrated under the theme “Investing in the Youth for Ghana’s Transformation”, the DCE revealed the district has recorded about 53.1 per cent growth in the population of the youth with a concomitant pressure on the Assembly to provide them jobs.

The DCE therefore admonished them to log onto  www.yea.gov.gh to fill a form so as to be enrolled on employment modules by the government.
