Addison is no match for Ezanetor – Ephson

Ben-EphsonPollster Ben Ephson is predicting an easy win for Dr. Ezanetor Rawlings if she comes face-to-face with Lawyer Philip Addison in the November 7 Parliamentary poll of the Klottey Korle Constituency.

The duo, for now, are elected candidates for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) respectively.

According to Ephson, Addison who was the Lead Counsel for the NPP in the Election Petition Case, will be a no match for the daughter of the former President of the land, Jerry John Rawlings because of apathy that has set in among the rank and file of the party followers in the constituency following his victory in last Saturday’s re-run of the parliamentary poll.

Ezanetor whose election is being challenged at the court by the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Nii Armah Ashittey, according to Ephson, would easily prevail in the November 7 poll if the former Employment Minister withdraws or loses his suit.

“If there is peace, Ezanetor should certainly be the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle Constituency,” he noted. Ephson made this observation in his post-election analysis of the Klottey Korle re-run of the NPP parliamentary poll when interacting with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, Monday.

An earlier election which was conducted by the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition in August 2015 was won by the Nii Nortey.

He polled 393 of the total valid votes cast. The other candidates, Mr. Addison and Nii Adjei Tawiah polled 22 and 19 votes respectively.

But the duo having cited flaws in the conduct of the polls challenged the validity of the results and, therefore, went to court for redress.

The party worried about the court action stepped in to use its internal structures to settle the matter amicably but Nii Noi opposed it, thereby, leaving them with no option than to allow the court to determine the outcome of the case brought before it.

The court having reasoned with the duo granted their wish for a re-run of the polls.

But prior to the poll, Nii Adjei Tawiah, who represented the party in both the 2008 and 2012 general elections as its Parliamentary candidate, stepped down, leaving Mr. Addison and Nii Noi to battle it out for the position.

The contest which was conducted on Saturday, February 27, 2016, saw Mr. Addison come back strongly to overturn the table.

He polled 396 votes as against 367 garnered by Nii Noi Nortey.

However, Ephson believes that Addison will not have his way through on the national platform.

According to him, what would pull the trigger in favour of the daughter of former President John Rawlings is the massive “skirt and blouse” votes that would be witnessed in the constituency.

He said once the table has turned and Nii Noi no more the NPP Parliamentary candidate for the area, his (Nii Noi) followers are so much peeved that they would vote against Addison.
