A/R: Tension as Military, Police take over Central Mosque

Tension is mounting in Ashanti Regional Central Mosque after armed police and military personnel were deployed to maintain law and order following misunderstanding between some Muslims Youth and Ashanti Regional Chief Imam Sheikh Abdul Mumin Harun.

Security personnel of Ghana Armed forces and Ghana police Service were at kumasi central mosque to protect the Ashanti Regional chief imam and ensure peace.

It will be recalled that some aggrieved Muslims youth threatened to force the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam Sheikh Abdul Mumin Harun to resign over his political comments.

The aggrieved Muslims youth in the Ashanti Region have accused the Ashanti Regional Chief of been bias against the flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama.

Muslims were having Jumma (Friday prayers) at the Central Mosque in the Ashanti Region.

The Executive Secretary of Office of Regional Chief Imam, Ustaz Ahmed Seidu speaking in an interview with Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo explained that the military and the police officers were deployed to foil some aggrieved Muslims youth plans to create tension.

According to him “the military and the police are not at the Central Mosque to intimidate anyone but those who will make an attempt to cause confusion will not find it easy”

“If anyone dare mess up with the peace we are enjoying at the kumasi central mosque , believe you me , that person will regret. The police and the military will deal drastically with that person” he explained.
