K Poly to assemble computers, phones plus hospitality business

k-polyThe Kumasi polytechnic will soon go into the production of laptops, phones and other electronics as the school enters into a partnership with a Chinese company, Songtech.

An assembling plant has already been built at piaso in the Bosumtwi district of the Ashanti Region and factory work will soon begin.

Speaking to Ultimate Radio after a tour of the facility, the rector of Kumasi polytechnic Professor Nicholas Nsowah-Nuamah said the factory when completed will serve as a training center for student’s pursuing technology and other related courses.

He said the factory will also serve as form of income for the school which will add up to its internally generated funds.

Another venture is into the hospitality industry. According to Prof Nsowah Nuamah plans are far advanced to start the construction of an ultra-modern hotel which will serve as a training center for hotel, catering and institutional management students in the school, he said the hotel will operate on a commercial bases but provision will be made for students of the polytechnic.
