A/R: Medical Doctor Blazes Trail to Uncover Existence of Forgotten ‘Head lice’

A medical superintendent of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Ernest Kwako has blazed the trail to uncover the prevalence of ‘Head lice’ at Akyeremade, a rural community in the Atwuma Kwawoma District in the Ashanti region.

The medical superintended who has staged a fresh war against the erstwhile forgotten health condition is upbeat about total eradication if much needed attention is given to this medical condition. He implored government to resonate Medical Researchers to research to uncover similar element of the past.

Head louse, an obligate ectoparasite of humans that causes head lice infestation in children from all background is believed to have been eradicated especially in urban arrears.

Conferring to this notion, Dr. Ernest Kwako has brought to light the existence of head lice in children in rural areas.

Speaking to media persons on the sideline during an outreach program organized by the Ghana Federation of Medical Students, the Medical Practitioner suggested stigmatization was a serious hindrance to head lice eradication for that matter Ghanaians must shun such.

President of the Federation of Ghana Medical Students, Kennedy Ngaaso who led a team of Medical Students, both local and international to administer drugs to affected children of the community were shocked having seen headlice for the first time.

Head lice are wingless insects spending their entire lives on the human scalp and feeding exclusively on human blood.
