The six persons arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of Prophetess Agnes Koomson, the founder of Grace Saviour Ministry, at Sowutuom in Accra, have been remanded in prison custody.
The Adjabeng Magistrate Court remanded them to reappear on August 20, 2014, while the dockets on the case have been forwarded to the Attorney General’s office for advice.
Before appearing before the court, Yaw Dodzi, 29, alias Awudu; Yusif Seidu, 23, alias Issif; Sumaila Ayittey, 18, alias Conscious; Solomon Lamptey, 25, alias Raja; Richard Avor, 26, and Daniel Nii Lamptey, 20, were paraded at the Accra Regional Police Command for identification.
“They were all identified by their victims at the identification parade,” said the Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Christian Tetteh Yohonu.
When arrested on Thursday, July 31, 2014, the suspects were said to have confessed their involvements in the robbery and the killing of the UK Branch Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mr Hayford Akrofi, at his residence at Ofankor.
Two pump action guns were found in their possession when they were arrested.
Other crimes
Mr Yohonu said police investigations had also established that on May 20, 2014, the suspects undertook a robbery operation at the Star Oil Filling Station at Juapong. They broke a safe and took away GH¢4,750.
Residents of Juapong pursued the robbers and “While fleeing the scene, they shot into the pursuing crowd, injuring six persons.”
The police, with the assistance of some of the residents of Juapong, apprehended one Joseph Adjetey Sowah who mentioned Richard Avor and Yaw Dodzi, alias Awudu, as accomplices.
The case is being handled by the Akosombo Police.
Gang members shot
Police investigations also revealed that on April 8, 2014, the suspected robbers shot two members of their gang in two separate operations in their bid to shoot at their victims.
One of the gang members, identified as Albert Boadi, was mistakenly shot and killed during a robbery operation in a provision shop at Kasoa that day, while another gang member, Randy Teye Narh alias Kaska, was also killed in a different operation.
One of the accomplices, identified only as Sumaila, is currently on the run.
