Dr. Kojo Appiah Kubi; MP for Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency

Maternal deaths–The member of Parliament for Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency in the Ashanti region, Dr. Kojo Appiah kubi has called for a holistic approach to solving the high maternal mortality rate bedeviling the Ashanti Region.

The spate of Maternal Mortality in the Ashanti Region is very alarming and it calls for National discourse.

According to him, we are losing too many of our pregnant women in the region and we must find an antidote to it immediately.

One of such communities, Ampeanim; a farming community in the Atwima kwanwoma constituency which has a population of about 2000 is a major source of worry.

The absence of a health facility in the community is creating a lot of inconvenience for pregnant women who have to trek miles in search of a health center.

Due to this, the MP of the area is currently constructing a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) to solve the perennial cases of maternal mortality in the constituency.

The project is expected to be completed in the next 3 months with the cost projection of 270 thousand cedis (GHC270,000) under the auspices of the ministry of special initiative and his share of the common fund.

Local healthcare facilities in rural communities often offer very basic services and users of these facilities are usually referred to big hospitals in the cities for simple diagnostic, he added.

Dr. Appiah Kubi, further charged on pregnant women to make it their habit to visit any healthcare facility for antenatal care to avert maternal deaths in the future.
