Wa West District: Bad road threatens economic activities

A deplorable major road connecting numerous communities such as Lassie-Tuolu, Nerekoteng, Mekpaa, Vieri to the Wa West District capital (Wechaiu) has been left same for the past three months after its destruction. The road was devastated beyond use after a heavy down pour on 20th May 2020.

The Assemblyman for Lassia-Tuolu, Hon. Micheal Sei-uu Arah when contacted on the deplorable road said, he has called the District Chief Executive Hon. Edward Sobo Labiir on phone to present a complaint and has also wrote formally to the assembly in quest for help.

According to him (assemblyman), the District Assembly responded saying that, the problem has been laid before the Ministry of Roads and they hope it get the desired attention soon.

Hon. Sei-uu said the communal labor he organized to work on the road has not entirely fixed the road but kept it in a manageable state.

Hon. Micheal Sei-uu Arah said he is still calling for support from individuals, groups and the District Assembly to fix the road.

Quite a lot of the community members (Lassie-Tuolu) expressed worry as they anticipate more rain fall in the coming months. They believed the road destruction will be worse if it is not fixed soon. A reasonable portion of the residents also expressed their unhappiness with the District Assembly for not being serious about the problem.

The road in question is also one of the major roads that link the District capital (Wechaiu) to the Regional capital (Wa) and mostly used by commercial vehicles.
