Update: Counting underway at NDC’s historic Congress

votingCounting has begun at the 8th national delegates’ congress of the governing National Democratic Congress being held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium of the Ashanti Region.

Voting concluded a few minutes after 8pm.
Joy News’ Evans Mensah reports that the charged atmosphere at the venue has waned a tad.
About 3,600 delegates from ten regions across the country tooday took turns to cast their votes to elect 24 national officers out of the 70 contesting various positions declared vacant.
Even before casting of ballots, one of the aspiring candidates in the hotly contested National Chairmanship race, Alhaji Huudu Yahya announced his decision to withdraw from the contest for reasons unknown.
This left the contest among three candidates; incumbent Dr. Kwabena Adjei, National Disaster Management organization (NADMO) Boss Kofi Porturphy and former Ambassador Daniel Abodakpi.
